Thanks for the information.

I've added into my .vmdrc by a similar suggestion
after idle {menu tkcon on}

It works now!

btw, I noticed that when tkconsole starts, it will load a history file
(containing history commands??).
I'm wondering where this history file is located.

Another question is about the {} used above.
During my own scripting in vmd, I also found that sometimes this {} is very
useful, such as mol selection {name "C.*"}.
I do not quite understand when and how to use it. I got the above usage of
{} just from the state file.
Is it needed by vmd or by the tcl/tk?

Please forgive me if I made some obvious mistake.

  Try adding this to the end of your .vmdrc
after idle menu tkcon on

If you don't already have a .vmdrc file, copy it from
/usr/local/lib/vmd/.vmdrc area on a Unix machine, or from
"c:\program files\university of illinois\vmd\vmd.rc" on Windows.
