when VMD writes a hexadecimal resid, you are in trouble,
since your structure doesn't comply with PDB rules anymore.
better to use a different file format. in many ways, pdb is a
horrible format, since it has a very low accuracy for coordinates.

you just copy the plugin over, however, for it to be recognized,
you have to step up the (minor) version number to tell VMD
that your plugin is newer as and should override the compiled
in plugin.
