Hi,
  Does the behavior change if you run it without "-dispdev text"?
If so, that probably means that you're missing a "package require"
command in your wat_sphere.tcl script, and that when you run it with
the GUI, you're getting a package you depend on by luck, due to it already
being loaded with a GUI plugin extension of some sort.
