Hi,
If you have trouble loading XYZ files with the new version of VMD it
may be due to a bug in the XYZ file reader plugin. If so, you should be
able to override that plugin and force VMD to use Babel to convert it
instead. You can force VMD to load a file using a different plugin by
selecting the file in the file browser, and then manually selecting a
different file type in the "molecule file browser" form. In the case of
XYZ, try using the "Convert From" -> "XYZ" entry in the file type chooser.
If you have an XYZ file that makes the default XYZ reader fail, please
email me a copy and we can get a new XYZ loader plugin built and posted
to the web site for people to use instead. The file reader plugins can
be upgraded dynamically, (one of their key features), so if there's a
bug like this, we should be able to fix it and post a new one.

Thanks,
  John Stone

However, if I convert the XYZ trajectory file into PDB file, then VMD 1.8 is able to load successfully. Is there anything wrong with the way I load it? Or what is the problem?
