Kenneth Laws: The Physics of Dance
    Friday 20 September, 2002
    7pm Colwell Playhouse

In this CAS/MillerComm lecture Kenneth Laws will use principals of
physics to explain dance movements such as balance and rotation.
Dancers will be on hand to demonstrate.

Laws is the world's expert on physics and dance, and the author of
three books and numerous articles on the subject, including "The
Physics of Dance" (Schirmer 1984) and "Physics and the Art of Dance"
    (OUP 2002).

    His web site: http://physics.dickinson.edu/physicsofdance

An even more interesting web site (IMO) is that of U of I physics
professor George Gollin. Check out the files for Gollins's lecture on
Physics and Dance (based heavily on the work of Laws) at
    http://web.hep.uiuc.edu/home/g-gollin/dance/dance_physics.html

    Tango Buenos Aires (March 2003)
Saturday, March 8 at 8pm and Sunday, March 9 at 3pm
    Foellinger Great Hall

This is an entertaining tango revue with live orchestra. Also
includes some spectacular folkloric numbers such as boleadora
twirling. Probably a good idea to reserve tickets now.
