    ========================================

    Dear Ballroom Dancers,

Take it from 2 veteran ballroom dancers (over 7 years each):

YOU'VE GOT TO LEARN ARGENTINE TANGO !!!

    Why?

Argentine Tango has something for everyone: a variety of beautiful music, an
exciting repertoire of steps that you can weave into a creative dance, a
musical environment that invites romance, plus opportunities for performance
in shows and exhibitions. If you get hooked on tango (like we have) you will
acquire the desire to learn more and more and more. (Warning: Tango truly is
    addictive.)

    Why Argentine tango in Champaign-Urbana?

There are monthly (actually more often) milongas (tango social dances) in C-U
at teh Phillips Recreatiuon Center. There are tango sessions before salsa at
the Regent about twice a month. The local tango community is growing rapidly.
Since the summer we have been averaging over 50 people at our milongas
(social dances) and we are still growing. There is a lot of excitement within
    the tango community.

What happens when I leave C-U?

There are 3 milongas per week in Chicago. (Wow.) Most large cities in the US
and western Europe have Argentine tango communities. These communities are
linked by the Internet so it is easy to obtain information on where to dance
tango. In addition to C-U and Chicago, we have danced tango in New York, St
Louis, Denver, Mexico City, Berlin and Leipzig, Germany, and Turin, Italy.
People all over the world dance pretty much the same. Even if you can't speak
the language, a nod of the head and then the embrace and the dance begins.
    ("Strangers in the night ...")

What kind of music is played at milongas?

Tango music has 3 main rhythms: tango, milonga, and vals. Each is danced
differently, with some differences in step repertoires. We also play a few of
sets of 'other Latin music', including salsa, merengue, cha-cha, rumba, swing
(Rock en espan~ol), night club 2-step (some Pop Latin music) and even polkas
    from Latin America.

JOIN US. We like to have ballroom dancers - they learn so fast!

We hope to see you in our class next week.

P.S. There are some of you out there (you know who you are) who learned some
Argentine tango a few years ago but haven't followed up on it. We are
confident we can at least double you expertise in Argentin tango if you take
our class. We would especially like to see you in our class.
