Tango Festival: Nov 8-11
Learn to dance tango in a romantic close embrace, the way it is danced
nightly in the tango salons of Buenos Aires, Argentina, the birthplace of
tango. The 4th Annual Close Embrace Tango Fiesta, hosted by the Tango
Society of Central Illinois, will be held Thursday to Sunday November 8-11
at the Phillips Recreation Center in Urbana. The instructor team includes
some of the most respected instructors of the Buenos Aires style of tango
teaching in the US:
- Hsueh-tse Lee (Boston)
- Christopher Nassopoulos & Caroline Peattie (San Francisco)
- Maximiliano Gluzman (Buenos Aires)
- Ramu Pyreddy (Washington DC)
- Ron Weigel & Susana Vazquez Weigel (Urbana)

Previous Fiestas have attracted over 100 dancers from around the Midwest and
beyond. During each session there will be 3 simultaneous workshops embracing
a rango of dance levels from Beginner to Advanced. There will be tango
dances Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings. For newcomers to tango there
is a Fundamentals Pass, $70 ($40 for students with ID) including 4 workshops
and 2 dances Friday and Saturday, with a $10 discount if you bring this
announcement. The introductory tango workshop of the series is given by
Tango Society instructors Ron Weigel and Susana Vazquez Weigel on Friday
night November 9 from 8 to 9:30 PM and costs $15 ($10 for students).

Tango Crash Course: Sat Oct 20
Tango Fundaementals Express: Mondays @ Phillips Center
Prepare for the 4th Annual Close Embrace Tango Fiesta November 9-11 at the
Phillips Recreation Center, 505 W Stoughton, Urbana. The Tango Society of
Central Illinois is offering a 'Tango Crash Course' on Saturday October 20
from 7:30-9:30 PM, followed by a tango social dance until 12:30 AM.
Admission is $10. Tango Society instructors Ron & Susana will will give you
a rapid introduction to the core of tango: lead & follow technique,
musicality, and fundamentals of navigation. No partner required. After that
you may follow up with their:
Tango Fundamentals Express
Mondays 8:15 - 10:15 PM
Oct 22 - Nov 12 (4 weeks)
Cost: $30 (No partner required).
Although taking these courses are not required for participation in the
Tango Fiesta, your participation will enhance your learning and enjoyment of
the Fiesta by providing you with some basic skills to give you confidence on
the dance floor.
