Hi Everyone!

Well, as you may or may not know, each year we have elections for the
Dancing Illini sometime around the beginning of May. I'd like to
encourage our members to consider becoming an officer or chairperson of
this large and dynamic club. We have 4 officer positions and 7
chairperson positions available, not counting the ability to have
"co-chairs" and some appointed positions.

As you may have seen in the past few years, the Dancing Illini works hard
to provide quality instruction and dancing opportunities to its members.
I have been lucky, as President, to have a great group of officers and
volunteers who have made this club run smoothly for the past 9 months.

So what is really involved with being an officer? I'm not going to say
that it isn't any work, but when you have many active and enthusiastic
people working with you, it isn't a ton. The one thing that I think is
the most important quality for any officer is a passion for dancing. That
passion usually will translate to a desire to see the club succeed and to
see new dancers grow and carry that passion as well.

Each officer position has clearly defined responsibilities as specified in
our constitution. Beyond that, we all help each other out when in need
(exams, quals, vacations, or whatever). If you are interested in any
particular position, you should speak with the current officer to see what
they have done and what is involved with that particular position. You
can find the list of our current officers on the web page under the phone
list.

Again, I'd like to encourage anyone, new or old members, to consider
becoming an officer and contributing to this great club. If you are
interested, I'm usually at the beginner classes and practices and any
other place/time that you can find dancing :)

Thank you,
Cory Tsang
