afterwards! We don't often get dancers or teachers of this caliber in town

*** DI Swing & Salsa workshop with Enio Cordoba, Illini Union, 6/28-30 ***

The Dancing Illini would like to invite you to a dance experience
you'll never forget! Get ready for Enio Cordoba and Terryl Jones, known
throughout the US for their fun, high-energy Swing & Salsa dancing and
teaching, as they present a morning of Swing and an energizing afternoon of
Salsa, including a dance technique session to help you improve your Spins,
Turns and Latin Body Action!

Anyone who has already taken a beginner class in Swing and in Salsa
(or has equivalent experience) will greatly benefit from these two
technique-packed workshops on Saturday, June 29th. If any of your dancing
friends have left town for the summer, please give them a call and let them
know about this! They won't want to miss it either!

If that isn't enough, we're having 2 "Warm-up" dances on Friday, June 28th:

A "Get-Ready!" ballroom dance:
8:00 - 11:00pm, $6/person.
The Regent Ballroom, 1406 Regency Drive W., Savoy, 217-359-5333
Ballroom DJ plays recorded music for waltz, foxtrot, rumba, cha cha
tango, swing/jive, west coast swing, quickstep, hustle, mambo,
nightclub two-step, and samba.
Dress code: No jeans, no sneakers.

A "Get-Set!" Salsa dance:
11:30pm - 2:00am, $3/person.

Salsa DJ plays recorded Salsa and Merengue music.

Then on Saturday, we all "GO!" to the Illini Union Courtyard!
The schedule of events for Saturday, June 29th is as follows:

9:00 - 10:30am Fun 'n Flashy East Coast Swing, figures and technique.

10:45 - 12:30pm Swing club style West Coast Swing, figures and technique.

12:30 - 2:00pm Lunch Break. Dancing Illini members will lead groups
to nearby restaurants for lunch.
(participants are responsible for their own food costs)

2:00 - 3:45pm Hot Salsa!
Great figures and technique to improve your dancing!

3:45 - 5:30pm Spins, Turns and Latin Body Action Explained!
Learn to spin like a top and move like a pro!

Cost will be $5 per workshop, and all four for only $15.
(Tickets are purchased at the door, but you need to register ahead of time)

Finally on Sunday, race to the "Finish Line" in room 314 in the Illini
Union for some additional advanced Swing workshops that are FREE to the
Saturday participants! The schedule of events for Sunday, June 30th is as
follows:

12:00 - 1:30pm More East Coast Swing, technique and styling
(taught by Terryl Jones only).

2:00 - 3:30pm More West Coast Swing, technique and styling
(taught by Terryl Jones only).

Don't miss out! Enjoy some great social dancing and meet Enio and Terryl
from 8:00pm - 2:00am at the Regent Ballroom on Friday, June 28th. Prepare
to be blown away by their dancing!!! Then on Saturday, June 29, join us to
learn some great dancing and technique tips from these award-winning
instructors. And don't worry - all you need to know is beginning level
material in these dances to participate on Saturday. Enio and Terryl will
teach us the rest, in the style they're famous for! Stay for more advanced
workshops on Sunday June 30, which are free to all the Saturday
participants!

is given below. We can only accomodate 200 participants, so please reply
soon. (Tickets are purchased at the door, but you need to register ahead
of time)

About Our Instructors

Enio Cordoba is a dancer, choreographer and the Owner/Director of "Let's
Dance L.A.", a large dance studio in California where he teaches all styles
of dancing.

He is a 2-time Feather Award Winner for Hottest Salsa Dancer in America
("Feather Awards" are the "Academy Awards" or "Oscars" of dancing) and
he holds a third Feather Award for Top Teacher in America!

Enio is a US Open Swing Championships Judge, and is a coach and
choreographer of more Swing dance and figure skating champions than we have
room to list here. Enio is a USBC Pro-Am Champion, World Salsa
Championships Semifinalist, USBC Rising Star Champion and a US Amateur
Latin Champion.

Enio was a Semi Finalist in the World Salsa Championships in 1990,
the Organizer & Head Judge for the DiSaronno Amaretto Salsa Championships,
director & choreographer of SALSAtion, and he will be the choreographer of
the next Salsa video for supergroup Orchesta De La Luz.

He is a true supporter of college dance programs and even teaches dancing
at the University of Southern California. As an instructor, he is well
known and respected around the world for his lively, fun-filled classes and
his effective teaching style.

Terryl Jones is an instructor and choreographer at "Let's Dance L.A."
and a Fred Astaire National Rising Star Ballroom Champion.

This summer, the Dancing Illini is holding a series of workshops designed
to train members to become dance instructors. We won't be learning any new
steps, but rather, we'll be covering how to effectively teach dancing and
dance classes. (Remember that as a DI teacher, you are eligible for free
dance classes and an $80/semester dance scholarship!) The second workshop
in our series will be presented by Enio Cordoba, Feather Award winner for
top teacher in America.

The video librarian will be available at all regularly scheduled practices

Videos can be checked out during the first 15 minutes of every practice, and
are due back at the following week's first 15 minutes of practice. You will be
asked for a $2 donation (to help the club purchase future videos) and for a
$20 cash deposit (which will be returned to you when you return the video).

(*) FOREVER TANGO in Chicago until August 4

News flash for Argentine Tango lovers: "FOREVER TANGO" (a fantastic Tango
stage show) has returned to Chicago for the *entire* summer, and is playing
at the Royal George Theatre, 1641 N. Halsted from now until August 4.
Tickets are $40 except on Tuesday nights, when they are only $25.

(*) DI Novice Tea Dance, Sun. July 14 2-4 PM in the Illini Union Ballroom

This will be our novice tea dance. Approximately 2/3 of the music and at
least one song out of every set will be suitable for one of the six dances
taught in the beginner classes.

(o) Want to improve your dance skills during summer vacation? Then
consider attending Brigham Young University's 1996 Ballroom Dance Camp in
Provo, Utah!

Targeted to both beginner and advanced dancers, you'll find the camp offers
many hours of dance instruction with world-renowned professional
instructors. Several club members have attended this camp in the past and
have reported that they learned a lot and had a good time.

Due to the high volume of interest in these camps, registrations are
first-come, first-served. To give everyone an equal chance, registrations
cannot be postmarked prior to March 18th.

(o) Heartland Ballroom Dancers (Indianapolis USABDA) Comp, Sept. 28-29

Mark your calendars for Sept. 28-29, 1996 for the next ballroom dance
competition at Indianapolis, sponsored by the Heartland Ballroom Dancers
(Indianapolis USABDA).
A group of us went in March and had a super time at this event! I highly
recommend entering the team competition event: it really builds spirit &
camaraderie.
There will be competition opportunities for youth, collegiate, and adult, as
well as lots of general dancing for the social dancer. What a great way to
celebrate National Ballroom Dance Week!

Friday nights, 8:00-11:00pm. (and a Salsa dance every other Friday from
11:30pm - 2:00am)

The Regent Ballroom is located at 1406 Regency Drive W., Savoy.
>From Champaign, take S. Neil St., which becomes U.S. 45, to Burwash Ave.
(The northwest corner of U.S. 45 and Burwash has a car dealership, Twin
City Honda; the southwest corner has a gas station.) Turn west onto
Burwash, immediately north of the Savoy 14 cinemas, then drive several
blocks to turn south onto Regency Drive West. The Regent is less than a
block south, on the east side of Regency Drive West. Free parking.

(o) Ballroom Tea Dances at The Lafayette Club:

DJ dances: 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month, 3-6pm, $4 admission.
Call to verify schedule

The Lafayette Club, 107 E. Lafayette, Bloomington. Enormous dance floor,
tablecloths, chandeliers, real cushioned chairs, a bar, great ballroom
music, a quality sound system, and a tasteful light system. It's a 50
minute drive from C-U; take I-74 to Business 51 North. Cross under the 55
overpass, and pull into their huge parking lot on your right. (309)

(o) Top of the Levee Dance Studio at 204 1/2 W. Washington in Monticello
(762-7474) has a dance about once a month. Dances are on Saturdays, 8-11
with a $6 admission. There are lots of mirrors, good floor and sound
system. It is upstairs in an old building with lovely tin ceilings and
walls. There are pillars to navigate around (as in 314 Illini Union) and
only benches to sit on in the actual studio, but there is a meeting room
down the hall with tables and chairs. You will recognize many of our
friends from the Regent there. In the coming year the dance schedule is:
