During the Winter Session (Jan - Mar) Tango Society classes and workshops
will have a focus on milonga, the lively rhythmic dance that is the
    historical
predecessor of tango and an integral and popular part of the trio of dances
    (tango, milonga, vals) danced socially.

Our approach is to emphasize musicality (connecting and playing with the
rhythm), navigation, and improvisation (as well as the accompanying leading
    and
following skills). In our classes and workshops you will not only learn the
basic elements in constructing a milonga dance, but also how to recombine
    them in
numerous ways, particularly with regard to navigating around the dance floor.

Instruction offered at the Phillips Recreation Center:

    (1) Sat Jan 24 [7:30 -9 PM] - Pre-milonga Lesson: "Introduction to Milonga &
    its Musicality"
         Cost: $7 (includes subsequent milonga)

This is for people who have no prior instruction in milonga, those who feel a
need to improve their connection with the rhythm, or those who desrie a
review of the basics. It is a preview of some of the material covered in our
    FUNDAMENTALS OF MILONGA course.

    (2) Wed Jan 28 [8:30 - 10 PM] - FUNDAMENTALS OF MILONGA (4 wk course) begins
         Cost: $28

This course focuses on building a repertoire of steps in milonga that can be
combined in numerous ways (improvisation) with the goal of navigating around
the dance floor. Relationship of step combinations to the rhythm of milonga
will also be addressed. This course is recommended for those who desire to
    expand
their improvisational skills (leaders and followers roles) and the ability to
connect with the music. Pre-requisite: Basic knowledge of tango.

    (3) Wed Feb 25 [8:30 - 10 PM] - INTERMEDIATE MILONGA (4 wk course) begins
         Cost: $28

This couse will expand the repertoire of milonga steps to include some very
interesting and unique patterns, as well as introduce the traspie (double
rhythm) in milonga. Improvisation will not only include step combination but
    also
the structuring of rhythmic variations. Pre-requisite: Competence in milonga
basics, as taught in the Fundamentals of Milonga course (or the Summer 2003
    Milonga Workshop series).

    (4) Sat Feb 28 [7:30 - 9 PM] - Pre-Milonga Lesson "Introduction to Traspie
Rhythm in Milonga" Cost: $7 (includes subsequent milonga)

This workshop will analyze the application of the traspie rhythm within the
construction of milonga step seqeuences, using basic milonga steps. It is a
preview/review of part of the material covered in the Intermediate Milonga
    course
    that will have just started.

We hope you can join us to learn more milonga. Milonga is always a lot of fun.
