In the month of October, the following tango-related activities are sponsored
by the Tango Society of Central Illinois and the Urbana Park District.
(1) Fri Oct 5 [ 5:30 PM - 8 PM ] Meadowbrook Park (near Windsor & Vine,
Urbana)
- Dedication of the 'Tango' Sculpture and Tour of Sculpture Garden
The fundraiser for the 'Tango' sculpture in March 2001 raised over $11,000
towards the purchase of the sculpture. In addition, proceeds of admissions at
the Phillips Center milongas have been donated towards the sculpture.
Finally, along with other contributions, enough money has been raised to
purchase the sculpture and its dedication will take place at its Meadowbrook
Park home, followed by a tour of the sculpture garden.
(2) Sat Oct 6: [ 9 PM - 12:30 AM ] Milonga at the Phillips Recreation Center
7:30 PM: Intermediate level tango lesson by Ron & Susana (topic to be
announced)
Listen to great music from an extensive collection of tango. All diverse
styles of tango dance music are represented, spiced with a few sets of
tropical Latin music. Enjoy dancing with all of your tango friends, and make
some new friends. Come early for continuing tango education in the
pre-milonga lesson.
(3) Sat Oct 12: [ 5 PM - 8:30 PM ] Workshops by Fred & Yermen Romero: Salon
tango, Vals
- at the Phillips Recreation Center
Fred & Yermen's workshops become more popular with each visit. Don't miss the
opportunity to learn tango from these excellent instructors.
(4) Wed Oct 16 [ 8:30 - 10 PM ] Fundamentals of Milonga
- class taught by Ron & Susana begins 6 week term at the Phillips
Recreation Center
A complete course devoted entirely to milonga. Rich with patterns and
improvisational guidelines, plus techniques for effective partner
communication.
(5) Sat Oct 19: [ 9 PM - 12:30 AM ] Milonga at the Phillips Recreation
Center
7:30 PM: Intermediate level tango lesson by Ron & Susana (topic to be
