I've received some questions on the level of instruction at the tango
technique workshops before the Phillips Center milongas this summer. These
workshops are for all levels. More experienced students will probably get
more out of the instruction in technique because they are already familiar
with the structure of the steps. This is not just a cursory introduction to
technique, but a detailed examination of the core steps of tango from the
perspective of technique. We had some experienced students at the last
workshop and they said found the workshop very useful. Beginners will be able
learn the steps, probably more thoroughly then they would in a course that
emphasizes acquisition of a step repertoire. We also had some beginners at
the last workshop and they also were pleased with the workshop.

I hope this clarifies the level of instruction at the technique workshops.

Susana and I hope to see you at the workshop and milonga on Saturday

    Ron

As part of a continuing series of summer tango activities:

There will be a milonga at the Phillips Recreation Center (Springfield &
McCullough, Urbana) on Saturday June 29 from 9 PM - 12:30 AM. Admission is
    $3.

Prior to the milonga, starting at 7:30 PM, Ron & Susana Weigel will be giving
a workshop on 'Basics of Tango Technique - 2: Ochos (Part 1)'. This is the
2nd in a 4 part series of workshops prior to the summer milongas at the
Phillips Center. If you have prior tango experience, you need not have
attended the first workshop in this series to attend the remaining workshops.
The cost is $5 and includes admission to the milonga.

    Subsequent topics are:
    July 13: Ochos, 2
July 27: Paradas and other tango pauses

This workshop series covers the basic tango steps from the perspective of
technique, particularly focusing on partner connection, in order to have a
more enjoyable tango experience. Thus, some familiarty with basic tango steps
is assumed. Dancers with tango experience will probably benefit more from
taking these workshops; however, dedicated beginners with some prior tango
experience would be able to take them and gain a solid foundation in the
    basics of tango.

In addition to these workshops, Ron & Susana will also be continuing to host
tango practice sessions at the Phillips Recreation Center on alternate
Tuesdays in June and July (July 2, July 16, July 30), from 8-10 PM. Admission
is FREE. During these sessions they can assist you in learning the material
    we cover in these workshops.
