This has been circulating in various places.
    You will note that some of the details look strange and/or dated;
this is because the message was written in 1973 on the occasion
of the U.S. pullout of Vietnam.

We may have been alone then, but we are not alone now.

England is behind us. The Queen had "The Star Spangled Banner"
played when the guard changed at Buckingham Palace yesterday.
    And England is not alone.

For the first time in its history, NATO has invoked Article Five
of its charter, which declares that an attack on one is an
    attack on all.
Australia, in a rare case of bipartisan agreement, has similarly
pledged support under the ANZUS treaty.

But they are not alone. Some of you may recall video clips of
Palestineans celebrating in the streets of East Jerusalem at the
    news.
What did not get shown on U.S. television -- but did in Europe --
was that there was another crowd, just as large, yelling at them
to shut up, and that there was nothing worth celebrating. They
held a candlelight vigil on Wednesday.
I'm told that Yassir Arafat personally gave blood to be sent to
    the U.S.

They had a moment of silence before a World Cup qualifying game
    in Iran. In Iran!
