starting namd

Dear all,
           I want to run namd anywhere from my machine. But I can run
it only from the folder in which it is installed i.e from
NAMD_2.6_Source/Linux-i686-g++/. I try the make links command, but it
gives error like: make: *** No rule to make target `links'. Stop
Can you please tell me a process by which I can run namd from any
folder in my machine? Please help.
