.xsc file and .restart.xsc file

Hi, I have kept running a simulation, which was started by a former student in the lab. I just noticed that the restart configure file always used .xsc file instead of .restart.xsc file. Could you let me know what the difference between them is? Why the simulation generate both of them? Thank you!
