building charm++ on macosX

i've downloaded the source code and followed the instructions to compile
charm++ on a mac...in my case :
./build charm++ net-ppc-darwin gcc3

several links are formed and then i get the error

Performing 'make charm++ OPTS=' in net-ppc-darwin-gcc3/tmp
./build: line 360: make: command not found

could someone plz tell me what i'm doing wrong
