Hi everyone!
Well, my tenure as President is coming to a close. However, one of my
goals of acquiring a coach for our DanceSport Team is coming to
fruition.
Kathryn Schaffer, US National Champion, has agreed to coach our team
with the help of Bruce Leasure and Hilary Frooman. You may recognize
Kathryn Schaffer since she has judged our own and other competitions
around the US. Bruce Leasure and Hilary Frooman, you may recognize from
the Regent. They are one of the top competitive couples in the amateur
circuit.
Details, details, details:
This coming Monday, May 18, from Noon-4pm at the Top of the Levee Studio
in Monticello, Kathryn will be holding the first practice for the
DanceSport team. Contact me or any other officer about this, especially
if you need a ride.
You do NOT need a partner for this first session. I want to see anyone
who is even remotely interested in coming to come. We will eventually
require partners, but it is good to see who else is interested and then
partner from there.
Right now, the DanceSport team does not require any additional dues, but
if you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, it will cost
$50 per person for the Summer Semester.
The practice sessions with Kathryn Schaffer will take place once a month
for 4 hours (though we may split it to beginner/advanced with 2 hours
each). In addition, Bruce and Hilary will be following through each
week at Monday night practice to go over technique and whatnot.
Also, while Kathryn is in town, I believe couples may also take privates
with her, though that is not included in the DanceSport fee.
I encourage everyone to at least try this out if you are even remotely
interested in competing. Kathryn is an amazing dancer and instructor
and this is one opportunity that you should not miss.
