Hello Dancers!

This weekend some of us traveled to the Heartland Classic Regional DanceSport Competition in Indianapolis. We all took part in the competition and you’ll be glad to know that we represented the club well; Dancing Illini couples made some cuts, won some ribbons, and most importantly, had a lovely time in dance. As competition chair, I’d like to say that I was particularly proud of our beginner dancers’ performances; they really showed style and grace under pressure, nice job Lynn and Jeff.

I’d also like to take a second to announce we’ve got another competition coming up. It’s Dancesport 2002 at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. It’s on February 23. All ameteur dancers---student and "real" adult alike---are allowed to compete at this competition, so come on out and join us. (A few of us went to their competition last year and we had a grand time.)

Please let me know if you wish to compete so I can keep a head count and do that adminstrator thing I do.

On this page you’ll find the link to all the competition information you’ll need. But here are a few of the basics:

What: University of Michigan 2002 DanceSport Competition
When: February 23, 2002
Cost: before 2/8/02---- $15 students, $ 30 adults
After 2/8/02---- $25 students, $40 adults
Category of Events: Newcomer (started dance after 8/1/01 and no previous competition experience), Bronze, Silver, Gold, Novice, Pre Champ, and Championship levels.

American and International styles will be competed separately in all dances.

This is a USABDA sponsored event so all competitors must be USABDA members. (E-mail me if you need instructions on how to join USABDA. It's $9 for students and $40 for "real" adults in annual dues.)

As a group we usually arrange our travel plans separately. In general we go up on the Friday before the comp, compete Saturday, and then drive home Sunday. If you want to do this let me know so that we can try and hook people up for carpooling and such.

Remember we need to send in our registrations by this FRIDAY to take advantage of the early registration discounts. And remember the added bonus, the club is going to reimburse registration fees for people who go to this competition and dance. So please, join us!

If you have any questions or comments let me know!
