Sounds of Summer Swing Contest

Dear DI,

    This Sunday is The Sounds of Summer at Crystal Lake Park, and the
Swing Society is doing swing lessons and a dance contest. The contest
will be at 5:30, and will consist of 2 heats: an amateur, and an open
swing dance, and will be played to live music (Three Cent Stomp from
Chicago). Please attend! Also, if you're interested in being a judge
and/or helping with the contest, please get in touch with Caitlin, Lisa,
myself, or Celina <ctrujill@uiuc.edu>.

1-2pm Jeff Helgeson Quartet
2:30-3:30pm Illinois Jazz Orchestra
3:30-4pm free swing lessons from the Swing Society
4-5pm Speakeasy. A local fast-paced swing/ska band.
5:30-7pm Three Cent Stomp. They are a hard swinging band from Chicago IL

known for their excellent multi-colored zoot suits and their fast swing.

They were recently featured in Swith This, Baby! II and play music that
is
uniquely suited to the central Illinois style of swing dancing. One of
their members is from Champaign. Little Laura writes: ``They are a fun
band, east coast and some lindy; their zoot suits are the best with
every
color of the rainbow represented, and they have some audience
involvement,
coming down and doing some Charleston kicks with the crowd.''
5:30pm Dance contest Winners judged by officials from the Swing Society
of
the U of I.
