There are several events swingin' this weekend. Also, note that Vargas
Swing is playing on Friday night, NOT on Saturday night. Here are the
details:
Friday, January 29, 5:30 to 10pm:
Swing Dance in the Great Hall of the Wesley Foundation. Corner of Green
and Goodwin. The Pocket Big Band will play at 5:30 and WDWS's and a DJ
from 7:30 to 10:00. Admission: $3. The Great Hall is large so there
would be PLENTY of room to dance. No age limit.
Friday, January 29, 7pm to midnight:
Jump! Jive! Salsa '99 Fundraiser, A Night of Swing and Salsa Music
WHERE: Illini Union Rooms ABC. WHO: Speakeasy at 7. Adelante at 9.
LESSONS: Swing Lessons at 7, Salsa Lessons at 9. COST: $5 before 9 pm
$4 after 9 pm. No age limit. 3spot will be there.
Friday, January 29 (NOT on Saturday the 30th):
VARGAS SWING. Location: The Office (Urbana). Lessons at 9, Band at
10. Must be 18.
Saturday, January 30, 9pm to 1am:
Swing Nite. 606 W. Ohio. Alpha Chi Sigma. Admission $2, no alcohol, no
age limit. Lot's of room to dance, smoke free.
Saturday, January 30, 8pm to midnight:
Swing in the Semester with 3-Spot. Illini Union Courtyard Cafe.
Admission: $2. A night of Swing. Watch 3-Spot perform, learn the
steps, and then show off your stuff on the dance floor! No alcohol, no
age limit.
Saturday, Janyary 30, 9pm:
The Virtues ("Bruiser and the Virtues") at the Embassy Tavern, 114 S.
Race, Urbana. 19 and over.
Also,
The Canopy has the Atomic Fireballs booked for February 11th ($5 advance
tickets/$7 at the door), and the Mighty Blue Kings will be returning
March 6 ($10 advance tickets/$12 at the door). The Brian Setzer
Orchestra is scheduled to appear along with Bob Dylan in the Red Bird
Arena in Normal, IL on February 13th. Tickets available through
Pollstar.
