Need partners for the competitions?

A number of beginners have asked me how they can compete if they don't
have a partner. Well I can think of 3 possibilities:

1) When you go to the dance class, you dance and talk to almost every
member of the opposite sex. So you can ask around for people who might
be interested in going to comps and then suggest that you get together
to practice once a week (maybe at the Regent Wednesday night practice)

2) You could post a note on this discuss list that you are looking for
a partner for the competitions. Actually Charles just did this and I
just responded that I would dance west coast swing with him (so this works)

3) You could just sign up for the comps and go to them and find a partner
that day! Many beginners/intermediates go the comps without partners
lined up for every dance. Your officers will talk to other club officers
and and let you know which dancers from other schools still need partners.
Comps also often have partner sign-up sheets the day of the comp. Many
beginners have won by dancing with someone they just met! Afterall, judges
are really just looking to see if you can dance to the tempo and if you know
1-2 basic steps.
