The people who have been objecting to the tone of this discussion are
right; many thanks for the reality check. My apologies to anyone who
has been offended by my posts; no insult was intended.

And let me add that I appreciate that the officers, and especially
Jay, want to make the comp as good as possible. Regardless of whether
I agree or disagree with their specific ideas, their *attitude* toward
the upcoming comp is both unusual and praiseworthy.

I think if I were to vote on a proposal, I'd vote for this:

(1) Keep the same dances.

Waltz, foxtrot, tango, quickstep, rumba, cha cha, samba,
mambo/salsa, jive/east coast swing, west coast swing, hustle
and nightclub two-step have been very popular, and have
worked very well, for the past eight years.

(2) Whatever other changes are made, keep the A/B system.

I don't know anyone who strongly dislikes it, and lots of
people who strongly like it.

(3) Change all the other rules as you see fit.

For all the speculating we've been doing, that's the only way
to find out:

(a) whether the new rules will be more effective or less;
(b) whether the new rules will make more work or less.

And that's pretty much the sum of my point of view on this issue.
