Just wanted to let you guys know about a terrific band that's coming to
town soon. Conjunto Cespedes is a band from the Bay area that specializes
in the Son/Son-Montuno styles of dance music that came out of Cuba in the
40's and 50's. It's not really "salsa" in the form that were used to, but
it's definitely exciting and very danceable music.
Anyway, they'll be at Foellinger next Tues (4/15) at 8pm. Tix are $5 in
advance (at the Union and Assembly Hall) and $6 at the door. For what
it's worth, I think that this is the best Latin band to come to town in
years (Tito Puente and Poncho Sanchez included).
