I doubt this has been added to any web page yet, so let me share some
good news with all you die-hard Swing fans. I just found a great new place
to dance called Schuba's. It is on the SE corner of Belmont and Southpark
in Chicago. Every Tuesday night a jump-blues band called the Chicago Jump
Company plays great swing dance music to a crowd of dancers in their 20's
and 30's. If you like the music of the Mighty Blue Kings, you'll love this
group too. Most songs are perfect for East Coast Swing, with West Coasts
and 2-steps thrown in whenever the band wants to slow down a little :-)
The floor is great and the atmosphere is very nice.
A couple of local swing teachers in search of a place to dance
recently got the band and the club owners together to create this instant
hit with the younger dance crowd. The dancers I met there were great
people; some were even UIUC alumni. Everyone was switching partners and
having a blast and I made a lot of new friends. I heartily recommend this
place; dance all night for only $5. Check it out.
I don't have Schuba's number, but you can call the band for info at
847-864-5969. I know that they will be playing at Schuba's the next 2
Tuesdays.
