Hello all,

Note: this post is long, but it's happy!

Last Thursday, the DI officers held an open meeting to evaluate
and prioritize a long list of possible activities for the fall semester.
The list of potentail activities included ideas generated from:

recent e-mail brainstorming sessions,
discussion from spring and summer general and officers meetings
personal communications between officers and members
and, various other revelations.

The goal of the meeting was to decide which special activites, when
combined with member interests, the promotion of club unity, budgeting
factors, and time constraints, would compliment our regular classes
and provide the most positive and energtic line-up for our fall sememster!

Through much discussion and evaluation, it was decided to go forward with
the following projects:

[- Please note that we actively encourage members to step forward and
take charge/ participate in the organization of any of the following
events! This is your club, only you can make it great! -]

o Theme Dances and other big dance events: in addition to our
traditional afternoon and graduation dances, the DI will be
involved with monthly weekend dance events in the Union
Courtyard or in co-operation with the new IUB Dance Committee!

September: Courtyard Dance
IUB C/W dance on Sept 21
October: DI Competition
November: IUB Dance Committee
December: Courtyard Christmas Dance

Possible themes are: Latin Night, Polyesta Fiesta,
Eighties Enough, 50's Swing.

o Workshop Weekend Events

The DI will again sponsor an Inter-collegiate social in
the Spring and schedule another Workshop weekend next summer.

The fall will be dedicated to producing a top-notch competition.
Thus, no inter-collegiate workshop weekends will be scheduled.
However, the DI will possibly offer one-day workshop
events for members, if any big-name instructors happen
to be traveling through our area! :)

o DI Graduation Dances

Since the Regent Ballroom will be running Salsa dances
very Friday this fall (yay), we need to find an alternate
location for the graduation dance. [To be promoted as a
Graduation Dance to the beginners and a Special Club Dance
to other members else, to ensure everyone knows they are
welcome] Options being investigated include:

The Levis Center
Attend the Regent Friday night dance and provide
$2.00 off coupons to students and members.
Additionally, we possibly hold a combination Graduation/
Dinner Dance Semi-Formal in the Spring at the
Fanmarker Club in Rantoul!

o Formation Teams
The club will help promote, partially fund, and enthusiatically
support any couples formation team. As long as there is
sufficient interest on the part of club members, these
teams will be a go!

Currently, two teams are in the beginning stages! All members
are welcome to participate in either the Salsa or Swing team!

o DI Dancing and having fun!

Club will offer a $2.00 coupon to any fall semester Regent
Dance. This coupon will be issued to individuals taking
an Intermediate class when they officialy register for the
class. A similar coupon will be issued to anyone completing a
beginner class on the final day of class.

Club will will consider offering dance demos or
mini-lessons in the dorms in the week prior to one of the
Special Events Theme dances.

The DI will continue to present demos, quickie lessons,
and/ or mixers at all DI dances. (cause they're fun!)

The club officers and regular members will 'person' the
door at DI dances and voluntarily act as greeters to help
everyone feel welcome.

The DI will schedule monthly field trips at local nightclubs
around town, and also some fun out-of-town events. We
will also issue buisness cards. Hand them out when people
come to compliment you on your dancing! Perhaps they'll
come dancing too!

Note, We intent to schedule a special field trip to
Purdue sometime before the competition, to show them
we can travel too, and promote an interactive social
atmopshere between DI members and other dancers.

Everyone promises to continue to get goofy and have fun
whenver someone wishes to hold an after-hours!

We will take a club photo at the DI Competition! (say cheese)

We will coax local celebrities to present an awesome demo
at our competion.

The club will cover admission costs for the Notre Dame
and OSU Competitions.

The club will partially fund individuals wishing to attend
BYU, USABDA-Florida, etc. dance trips. ($50 per person,
not to exceed $300 per group) (cost factor to be
presented to the club one month in advance)

If any DI member wishes to attend a special workshop
weekend event, the DI will cover the cost of gas, in exchange
for a quickie lesson. (cost factor to be presented to the
club one month in advance)

We're going to get a ton of 'Ask Me to Dance' Buttons!

As you can see, the DI will be busy having lots of fun this fall! We
hope everyone will get caught up in these activities and enjoy both the
planning and dancing!

see you dancing!
