- For dancers of all levels:
This Saturday November 13 is the 5th Anniversary of the first milonga held at
the Phillips Recreation Center. We are proud to have this 5 year association
with the Urbana Park District, which has helped tango grow in
Champaign-Urbana, providing a venue for milongas, performances and instruction by various
local and visiting tango instructors in weekly classes, workshops and practicas.
Maria Castello from Buenos Aires and Jacques Saint-Cyr from Montreal, now
living in Rockford, Illinois, were the first visiting tango instructors to
Champaign-Urbana, giving their first workshops at the Regent Ballroom in 1998. The
highlight of our evening on Saturday will be the set of performances they will
give starting at around 11 PM, which will show, in period costumes, a history
of tango styles in the over 100 years of tango history.
- The milonga is from 9:30 PM - 1 AM, and is preceded by pre-milonga
workshops.
As our previous messages have described, Maria and Jacques will be giving
intermediate and advanced level workshops on Friday evening and Saturday
afternoon and evening (i.e., including a workshop before the Saturday night milonga).

- For BEGINNERS in tango:
Ron & Susana Weigel are giving an introductory tango workshop "An
Introduction to Tango & its Musicality" from 8:00 - 9:30 PM.
Thus, even if you have had no prior tango experience (or it has been a while
since you've danced), here is an opportunity to learn some tango (or refresh
your memory) and be ready for some dancing and then a great tango show.

Admission Cost (at time of entry):

9:30 PM: $10 for milonga & show
11:30 PM: $5 for milonga only
