Sun March 4 Workshops in Argentine Tango
Maria Castello & Jacques St. Cyr

I. Introduction to Argentine Tango 1-2:30 PM

Learn the basic steps of Argentine tango (walking steps, the forward ocho,
the cross, the resolution) so that you can get out onto the dance floor.
Learn to recognize the rhythm and to move in time with the music. Learn some
basic skills needed for leading and following.

II. Fundamentals of Argentine Tango 2:45 - 4:15 PM

This workshop is for people with some tango experience. Workshop #1 is
sufficient. This workshop will review the forward ocho, introduce the back
ocho and simple turns. There will be a focus on linking patterns together to
navigate across the dance floor. Helpful techniques for improving partner
connection will be emphasized.
This workshop will be useful for people who know some tango but would like to
improve their level of comfort in getting out onto the dance floor at the
milongas.

III. Milonga 4:30 - 6 PM

Milonga is the historical predecessor of tango and is danced a lot at tango
social dances. Milonga is a faster livelier dance than tango, but shares some
elements in common. This workshop assumes some prior knowledge of tango,
similar to what is taught in Workshop #2. You will learn the basic rhythm and
steps of milonga and how to navigate around the dance floor.

Cost:

1 workshop $25 (students: $20)
2 workshops $45 (students: $35)
3 workshops $60 (students: $45)

A limited number of private lessons will also be available at the rate of
$50/hr per instructor.
-------------------------------------------------------------

The Phillips Recreation Center is located at the corner of Springfiled &
McCullough, just west of downtown Urbana.
