Charles and Deena dance every category in DI competition...

I had 'a lily of a day!'(or a good day) at the competition. For the first
time, in Dancing Illini history (I hope it was our first time), I had a
steady partner who danced in
all dance categories in the DI competition, including the Lindy hop.
Didn't you see my partner, curly-haired, about 5'3", about 130, and had
glasses on? (She wore all black in the Latin categories) That was, as
I said before, Deena Vichugsanonon. We were 'couple no. 403'.

For the samba, we decided not to do International-style--only U.S. style,
for the former focuses too much on technique. We treated it like merengue,
and we did samba walks, double-time copas, and the reverse basic movement
that doesn't require the 1/4 beat, and we did the giro (turn)to the R and
I led her into the samba rolls--the most exciting part we had in the
contest.

I did not mention to Deena that there were two notorious ballroom dance
clubs in the competition, and this is where we paid the price. The Purdue
and University of Indiana ballroom dance clubs beat us and kicked us out
of the semifinals in all dance categories that we danced in, and it did
not matter if we did dance on time to the music. Sadly, she was all beat
after the final dance category of the evening and decided to forego going
to the post-competition dance, despite the fact that she would have been
my partner for the reverse role cha-cha.

How were we on the dance floor yesterday?
