A population/statistical model is given to describe the electrical activity patterns of large neural populations of the hippocampal CA3 region. It incorporates basic electrophysiological properties of hippocampal pyramidal and inhibitory neurons. Population activities are simulated during normal and epileptiform activities in the CA3 region of the hippocampus. It is demonstrated that the model can reproduce electrophysiological phenomena characteristic to population activities.
