NAMD 3.0 alpha, operating system requirements

Dear Developers,

Is there even a remote possibility that the linux namd v.3.0 executable
could be built on a slightly 'older' machine ? Both libc & libstdc++ from a
Centos 7 box are apparently too old for the distributed executable. It
would be perfectly understandable if the answer is 'no, this is not an
option'.
