electric field along z-direction

Dear all,
when one applies an electric field along z-direction and uses
cylindrical boundary conditions with the axis in the same direction,
is the electric field uniform in this case? In other words, does the
length of the cylinder creates artifacts on the simulated system other
than bouncing of atoms from the boundaries?
 Thanks,
