NAMD on fedora 3 core?

Hi !
I installed NAMD (NAMD_2.5_Linux-i686-TCP.tar.gz) on a
dual opteron-248 machine with Fedora 3 core as OS. The
resulted benchmarks are rather disappointing (for me).
NAMD runs only slightly faster on Fedora than on Win2000
(same machine), BUT REALLY slower than on a dual Xeon machine
with Mandrake.
How do the 64 bits make their difference?
Is there any NAMD precompiled version for my architecture?
The alternative is to compile NAMD from scratch. Of course
this choice is not very attractive.
Any way, for this I would need the source. Which files do I
have to download?

I'd appreciate any suggestions.
