Hi everyone,

Sorry that this is going out at the last minute. As always, our General
Meetings are on the first Wednesday of each month (or should be). This
meeting must take place this Wednesday and cannot be delayed so that we
will be able to secure space over the summer for our classes.

As you can tell from the lateness of this meeting announcement, we could
really use a Secretary :)

In addition to the elections, we will be discussing changing the club to
be a "Dues Only" club for the Summer. This is to meet the requirements of
Krannert Center which doesn't allow organizations to charge for events
held there. We are currently thinking about at $30 flat dues rate for
just this summer. This is something that will directly affect all
members and registered participants. The amount for dues will be up for
discussion. Please participate.

Nominations for Officers and Chairpersons are now being accepted.
Self-nomination by qualified individuals is allowed. Nominations
will close and voting will be held at the May 6th DI General Meeting.

In exchange for running the club, DI officers and chairpersons get FREE
admission to DI classes and events, plus other perks like no deposits
required for borrowing videos and an end-of-semester dinner on the club.
Additionally, it looks great on a resume that you helped run a 200+ member
club with a $15,000 yearly budget! Former officers have gotten jobs based
on their management experience as club officers!

The following elected positions are open for the 1997-1998 academic year:

(don't worry if there is already someone running for the position that
you want - most any position can be filled by 2 or more people.)

Members who have not paid their semesterly dues prior to the opening of
nominations are not eligible to vote or to run for office. Only student
members may serve as President, Vice President or Treasurer. If you have
taken any of our classes this semester, you have paid your dues.

Please refer to the DI Constitution Article II for descriptions of duties
for each position. Also, refer to the DI Constitution and Bylaws for
information on the governance of the Dancing Illini. If you are
interested in becoming an officer, please feel free to approach current
officers with questions.

The Dancing Illini Constitution and Bylaws are online:

Additionally, check out the online Officer's Administrative page for
further information.

Every year the club officers put together a notebook to pass on to the new
officers, and every year it is lost or forgotten, causing needless
duplication of effort for the new officers. To end this wasteful cycle
forever, we have created an "Officer's administrative page" on the DI web
site. This indexed repository of knowledge is chock full of helpful hints
and advice on how to do your job as an officer, chairperson, instructor or
dance team leader. It even contains, in downloadable form, all the flyers
we've handed out over the past year, for ease in creating new ones. Those
of you considering becoming club officers but worried about the time
commitment should look over the officer's administrative page. While
browsing the DI page at

http://www.uiuc.edu/ro/dancing

just click on the "officer's administrative page" link and scan it over.
Utilizing these resources will make life a breeze for future officers.

Thank you for reading this far :)
