The following calendar is a list of very high quality, inexpensive dance
classes, dances and workshops that aren't too far away. This includes new
info and details that are not in the printed Dancing Illini (DI) calendar.
For info on DI dance courses, see our web page.

INDY - THIS WEEKEND
The 2nd Annual Indianapolis Dance Classic is a Swing and C/W dance
festival featuring workshops, competitions and social dancing. It takes place
September 12-14 at the Ramada Inn Airport Hotel (317) 244-3361. For info

CHICAGO - THIS WEEKEND
* Chicago Rebels Swing Dance Club Social Dance, Fri, Sept 12, 8-12pm,

*Sunday, September 14 "Jumpin at the Ballroom"
Swing to the music of four live bands in a massive old ballroom.
Bands include:
The Big Swing (Chicago)
Indigo Swing (San Francisco)
Rocket 88's (Orlando)
Atomic Fireballs (Detroit)
Doors open 5pm - Music starts 6pm. All ages show.
Tickets are $18 and available through ticketmaster (351-2626).

Dancers from across the country should be there, since this is the
same weekend Steven Mitchell is having a Lindy Hop workshop in Chicago.
(ps - The Steven Mitchell Lindy Hop workshop is scheduled for the
weekend of september 12-14 and will be held on the University of
Chicago campus in Hyde Park. It's sponsored by the UofI Chicago
Swing Dance Club - see their web page at:

I believe enrollment in the workshop has been closed at this point.
Registration had to be limited to @100 because of the location.

* "Faces" is the name of a beautiful dance club that is part of "Magnum's"
restaurant. It's incredible: Big wood floor. 50-75 dancers attend
_every_ Sunday night. No cover charge. Great music for East and West
Coast Swing, Hustle, Chacha, Salsa, Nightclub 2-step. DJ takes requests.

CHICAGO - NEXT WEEKEND
The 2nd Annual National Rising Star Swing Dance Championships is the
event of the year for newcomer and intermediate dancers. It takes place
September 19-21 at the Arlington Park Hilton in Arlington Heights, IL (near
Chicago). It features hours and hours of social dancing, competitions,
Jack and Jills, and workshops with champion instructors from around the
USA! $12,000 in prize money will be given away!
