Dancing Illini General Meeting, Wednesday, June 10,1997, 8pm
1. Officers' Reports
President Cory is trying to contact USABDA regarding the rules
pertaining to paid instructors. Currently, new USABDA rules
state that no amateur can profit monetarily from dancing.
Since our paid instructors are amateurs, we need to
somehow accommodate these new rules.
Vice Not Present
President
Secretary The Summer 4 page flyer has been updated. The cost of the
new version of CalendarMaker ($60) should be added to the
summer budget. Ravi is currently working on the June dance
calendar and will make sure we have enough flyers for
classes next week.
Treasurer Justin presented some unresolved items from the Spring
budget. In particular, there were some questions regarding
expenditures for the Intercollegiate Social, and it is
not clear how much the club owes David Lin for last
semester's practices. Justin will check with David about
this.
The check for Enio's plane tickets will be sent out soon.
The club needs receipts and signed "Terms of Agreement"
forms from him for the summer workshop. In addition, the
budget for Enio and Terryl's accommodations are $315. The club
should find cheaper accommodations for them. Justin will
work with Stephanie to resolve these issues.
Justin has agreed to handle the comp. team's funds.
Jeremy Williams claims the club owes him $874 for club
expenses that he covered with his personal funds. The
club needs receipts from him before he will be reimbursed.
To handle similar situations in the future, those present
made the following resolution.
RESOLUTION
If owed money, a club member must submit receipts to
the treasurer within one month to be reimbursed.
Scott Weitzenhoffer's name needs to be removed from the
FOA account.
Social There will be a "Welcome Back" dance in the Illini Union
Chair Rm. 314 on June 28. Amy needs to get music to begin
organizing the dance. In addition, volunteers are needed
for the 4th of July picnic.
PR Chair Not Present
Regina is still trying to get ads in the Daily Illini.
For next week's classes, the club needs to place ads in the
Daily Illini ASAP. Cory will take care of this.
The flyers that were posted last week have already been
taken down. New flyers need to be posted ASAP.
Ed Chair Cory is working on extending the club's space request
in the Illini Union for the last week of class. The
space request for August 4 needs to be extended until
10pm so that practice can be held. The club also needs
to start making space requests for Fall soon.
The cabinet needs to be moved from Freer to Krannert.
In addition, the serial numbers of all the equipment
inside the cabinet need to be recorded.
For next week's classes, the following needs to be done.
o Go through check list for the first day of classes.
The check list is on the web page.
o Call instructors and make sure they are ready
o Make sure we have "Welcome to Dance" cards.

2. Changes to the Constitution and Bylaws
The following changes to the DI Constitution were proposed.
o Article II, Section 1, paragraph G. Social Chair add:
The Social Chair shall be responsible for the DI music library.
o Article II, Section 4, paragraph C
...As remuneration, each officer, chairperson and volunteer

instructor shall receive free admission to all DI events whose
operating costs are not determined by attendance....
o Article II, Section 4, paragraph C Delete the following sentence.
...Volunteer instructors who teach at least 10 hours per
semester shall receive a dance scholarship of $80 per semester
(summer included), which can accumulate for no more than 3
consecutive semesters
The following changes to the DI Bylaws were proposed.
o Add the competition format to the Bylaws.
o Article II, Section 4, paragraph C add:
F. Instructor Compensation
Each professional instructor will be paid a fee based upon
experience, etc. Each fee will be negotiated individually and
listed on a "Letter of Agreement" contract signed by the instructor.
Exact wording for `"amateur" student dancers who teach dancing'
will depend on the result of Cory's discussion with USABDA.
The above proposals were seconded and will be voted upon during
the July General meeting.
3. Nominations for Co-Education Chair
The club is now accepting nominations for co-education chair.
The responsibilities of the education chair can be found in the
DI Constitution in the section entitled "Governance." If you are
interested in filling this position, email the club officers at
dancing-officers@uiuc.edu
4. The Summer Budget
Justin presented the budget item by item. The budget was proposed,
seconded, and unanimously approved.
5. Other Items
The next officers' meeting will be held June 25 at 5pm. The
location is to be announced.
