(*) DI Practice and Elections, Freer Gym, Thursday May 2, 9:30 - 11pm

Nominations for the officer positions, chairs, co-officer positions and
co-chairs are currently being accepted.

Our Constitution says:

The offices of the President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary,
as well as the Competition Chair, Education Chair, Social Chair and
Public Relations Chair exist to provide "opportunities for leadership,
teamwork, and carrying out innovative ideas -- for making a difference
on campus."

But being an officer is not just a resume-stuffer with no pay. If you plan
on periodically volunteering to help us do little jobs anyway, why not just
make the commitment now and get all your dance classes for free in return?
That's right, FREE! because the constitution also says:

As remuneration, each officer, chairperson and volunteer instructor shall
receive free admission to all DI events whose operating costs are not
determined by attendance.

So give it some thought. We're offering a lot more instruction now than we
ever have, so you stand to save quite a bit in exchange for lending us your
organizational skills. Come to the officer meeting this Thursday evening
and see what we do, talk to the current officers, and pick the position (or
co-position) that's right for you (or for you and a friend or two).

The following is a list of positions and nominees:

President: Mark Balzer, Sriram Shankar
Vice President: Yuan Gao
Secretary: Cory Tsang
Treasurer: Scott Weitzenhoffer
Education chairperson: Tanja Hodges and Sheena Beaverson
Social chairperson: Derek Young
Publicity chairperson: Colin Edwards
Competition chairperson: ?????????????

Only student members may serve as President, Vice President, or Treasurer.
Anyone may run for the other offices/chairs.

There's only 1 week left to fill these positions: Club elections are
coming up on Thursday May 2, during the monthly Dancing Illini club
meeting (9:15 pm, Freer Gym).

(o) On May 5 and June 9, Kathryn Schaffer, former North American and U.S.
Professional Ballroom Champion, will teach a workshop at the Regent.
Kathryn is a wonderful instructor. Make sure you come and check this out.

David Lin writes: "She is by far the best coach I ever hosted, it's a shame
to not take advantage of her being here." She will also be at the Regent
teaching private lessons. Private lessons during those two days can be
booked for $75 per hour. Students may consider getting a few couples
together to share expenses.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

big band.

Mark your calendars for Sept. 28-29, 1996 for the next ballroom dance
competition at Indianapolis, sponsored by the Heartland Ballroom Dancers
(Indianapolis USABDA).
A group of us went in March and had a super time at this event! I highly
recommend entering the team competition event: it really builds spirit &
camaraderie.
There will be competition opportunities for youth, collegiate, and adult, as
well as lots of general dancing for the social dancer. What a great way to
celebrate National Ballroom Dance Week!
