The Dancing Illini will be opening up the following officer/chairperson positions to U of I students, staff, or faculty starting in late April:

    President
    Vice President
    Treasurer
    Secretary
    Education Chair(s)

The following positions will be open to anyone who is a member or registered participant (anyone who has paid for classes), independent of U of I affiliation:

    Social Chair(s)
    Teaching Chair
    PR Chair(s)
    Video Librarian

****Advantages: In addition to this being a fun thing to do because you can get more involved with different dance opportunities and you meet more people with whom you can actually dance, you get free classes for the amount of time you spend in office!

    Descriptions
President: makes sure all other officers are doing their jobs well, and fills in when needed. The President also performs small administrative duties, such as to register the DI as a club, puts his/her signature on many things that need an official John Hancock, and runs the club meetings.

Vice President: needed only to fill in when the President is absent or is incapable of performing his/her duties.

Treasurer: responsible for creating a working budget each semester, collecting dues and fees, making deposits, requesting funding, maintaining a petty cash fund, and reimbursing members for approved club expenditures.

Secretary: responsible for scheduling officers meetings and general meetings, taking notes at these meetings, and providing the minutes of each meeting via email to officers or DI members. The Secretary also must create, maintain, and distribute a roster of club members.

Social Chair: one of the more important jobs, Social chair is responsible for requesting space for our social dances, running the dances (selecting and playing music from our extensive music library), organizing the dinner dance at the end of each course session, and taking his/her clothing off when necessary for entertainment purposes. (Just kidding about that last one.) The best individuals for Social chair will use creativity to enhance DI hosted events, and will always be on the lookout for non-DI sponsored dancing events. This position can be shared by 2 people (co-chairs).

Education Chair: by far, the most important job of all the officers. It entails reserving space for our classes and practices, finding instructors to teach, and figuring out what courses will be offered for both beginning and intermediate levels. The Ed chair also is responsible for any supplies or items used in classes. An ideal candidate would be someone who is good at making backup plans. The ability to think 4 months in advance is a requirement. Although this position may seem intimidating, our past Ed chairs have been quite successful in developing a standard way of doing things. (i.e. Our class options, teacher pool, and dance space options have already been established.) This position can be taken on by 2 people (co-chairs).

Teaching Chair: Evaluates the teachers and provides suggestions or comments from the students on how to improve.

PR Chair(s): responsible for advertising our classes, dances, and any other dance activities we are participating in. PR chair is also responsible for organizing and running the DI booth on Quad Day.

Video Librarian: in charge of renting or lending videos either before or after classes each week, and keeping a record of the borrowers.

If you have more questions or are interested in any of these, you can reply to this message with which position you are interested in, and it might be nice to mention why it interests you. We will hold a general meeting in late April to elect someone or each position.

    Best wishes,
    Lynn Milewski
    Dancing Illini President
