The Regent is one of our most valuable resources especially when you
consider that you are receiving professional instruction at half the cost
if you are a full time student (just a few dollars more than Dancing
Illini courses).
David also gears these courses for the Dancing Illini. The majority of
the students are from the University, so it will be a similar crowd.
Though it is off campus, it really isn't that hard to find a carpool using
the discuss list.
Also, the classes at the Regent aren't necessarily geared for competitors.
Granted, if you take his courses, you'll be able to compete if you wish
(like I said, he's a fabulous teacher). But you'll also be able to have a
lot of fun social dancing as well. I've found that I have a lot of fun
social dancing because I have taken his courses. By becoming a better
dancer, you can learn to relax, listen to the music, and just have fun
instead of always worrying about steps or late leads. Becoming better
doesn't mean you have to compete. It just means you're better and more
fun to dance with (If you're a follower, don't you just love great leads?
If you're a leader, don't you love it when you have a great follower?).
I, personally, would love for David to continue this semester's classes.
I take them to refresh my knowledge and to just practice what I know.
Milage...no way to get around it :). As for other people, you should be
able to pick up into David's level 1 classes once you've completed our
beginner classes. After that, its your own judgement.
So, I urge you, if you're interested in taking David's next 6 week set of
classes, please email him. They are a lot of fun. Remember, the more
dances you know, the fewer you have to sit out ;)
