With an open date on July 26 before the milonga, we decided to expand our
Workshop Series / Course on Milonga from 3 to 4 sessions. This will provide a
solid foundation in Milonga from the beginning through intermediate level.

Summer Workshop Series / Course on MILONGA
At the Phillips Recreation Center
Taught by Ron & Susana
Taking these 4 workshops comprises a 6-hour course in Milonga. Milonga shares
characteristics with Tango, nevertheless it is a dance unto itself with a
unique rhythm, style, leading and following techniques, step combinations, and
navigation possibilities. This workshop series will emphasize these distinctive
characteristics of Milonga. Students may enter the sequence at any point,
based on their current level of expertise in Milonga. Note that even students with
prior experience in Milonga will benefit from all classes, due to the
specific instructional focus.
Sat June 7
7:30 - 9:00 PM (a lesson prior to the Milonga)
=> Milonga - I: Foundations of Milonga
- Rhythm and the basic steps in Milonga, including opportunities for
improvisation. Leading and following techniques characteristic of Milonga will be
addressed.
Cost: $7 (includes admission to the subsequent milonga)
Sat June 28 (2 workshops)
2:00 - 3:30 PM
=> Milonga - II: Alternative Line of Dance Progression
- Strategies for step combinations in forward, sideways, and diagonal
line-of-dance progression, including constructing sequences in connection with the
rhythm of Milonga.
Pre-requisite: Assumes knowledge of Milonga equivalent to content of
'Foundations of Milonga' workshop.
4:00 - 5:30 PM
=> Milonga - III: Improvisation on Progressive Turns
- Step options in exiting from progressive turns in different positions in
the turns, including varying line-of-dance orientation.
Pre-requisite: Assumes knowledge of Milonga equivalent to content of
'Alternative Line-of-Dance Progression' workshop
Cost (June 28 workshops):
$8 for 1 workshop / $15 for both workshops
Sat July 26

=> Milonga - IV: Traspies and Sacadas in Milonga
- Use of double time rhythms and displacements in Milonga.
Pre-requisite: Assumes knowledge of Milonga equivalent to content of
'Foundations of Milonga' workshop.
Cost: $7 (includes admission to the subsequent milonga)
Special Advance Enrollment Rate:
$24 for all four workshops (includes 4 two hour practice sessions), if you
register before or at the time of the first workshop (June 7th milonga)
