    This is a message from Leonardo that I am forwarding to the Dancing Illini:
    =======================================================

    The next milonga at the Phillips Recreation Center (Springfield & McCullough,
    Urbana) is Sat Feb 16 from 9-12 PM. Prior to the milonga (7:30 PM) there will
    be a lesson for newcomers to tango given by Nancy Blake. The cost of
    admission to the milonga is $3, and the lesson costs $5 and includes
    admission to the milonga.

    A new workshop series will begin prior to this milonga, and continue on the
    remaining milonga dates for this semester (Mar 9, Apr 6, Apr 27). We have the
    good fortune to have Fred and Yermen Romero, tango instructors in Chicago for
    7 years, who have made the committment to provide their expertise in teaching
    2 continuing classes:

    (1) Salon Style Tango [4 - 5:30 PM]

    This is the popular elegant style of tango that arose in Buenos Aires during
    the 1940s, the Golden Age of Tango, and is the foundation from which stage
    tango evolved. This series of workshops will concentrate on: technique for
    effective leading and following within the standard repertoire of tango
    patterns, the use of adornments within the context of pattern building, and
    musicality (the matching of tango patterns to musical phrasing).

    ===========================================================
    Even if you're not an Argentine tango regular (in which case you'll
    understand the benefit of attendance), you'll benefit greatly from this
    series if:
    - you've had a class or two but it's been a while and you're rusty
    - you've had some workshops but can't attend regular classes because of your
    schedule
    ============================================================

    (2) Milonga [5:45 - 7:15 PM]

    Milonga is the predecessor of tango and is still very popular today. This
    series of workshops will concentrate on: the structure and styling of
    milonga, connection with the rhythm and interpretation of the music, and
    building of patterns for navigating around the dance floor, using effective
    leading and following.

    ============================================================

    If you're a regular tanguero, you will want to learn to improve your milonga.

    You may not know how to dance milonga but you've probably seen it and would
    like to learn it. This will be a 6 hr workshop series. If you know the basics
    of tango, you can learn milonga.

    Also, if you've had some instruction in milonga but don't feel confident
    about dancing it in piublic, this workshop is for you.

    =============================================================

    Pre-requisite for workshop series:
    - Successful completion of a beginner level tango course.

    You may enter the workshop series at any time.

    Location: Phillips Recreation Center, 505 West Stoughton, Urbana

    Cost (each date):
    - 1 Workshop: $20 (Students: $15)
    - 2 Workshops: $35 (Students: $25)

    For information:
    - Contact Ron Weigel at RonWeigel@aol.com or 217-328-1311

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    --------

    We hope you can attend the milonga and the workshops.

    Leonardo

    =============================================================

    The workshops will concentrate on technique, not learning steps.
