First good-bye...
I am deeply saddened about the closing of the White Arts Dance Center. I
can remember
going to the tango 'practicas' with Carlota and Joe. I went there after
I took some Argentine
tango lessons with Mark and Ece Karatan. As a 'full-package' ballroom
dancer myself
(meaning I can dance to everything), this closing hurts so bad as the
closing of Mabel's.
The 'good-bye' for the White Arts hurts especially because it had full
length mirrors where
you can see yourself dance and ballet barres to do some warm-ups.
Second good-bye...
I am going overseas again as last year.
As for me, I am going on another trip to Europe. I have to go to
participate in a piano
competition in Ragusa-Ibla in Sicily (called "The IBLA Grand Prize") in
late June and
then to Budapest for the 3rd International Piano Festival. In between
events we will
stay two weeks in Paris. I leave June 21 and won't be back until August
14.
My best friend and very good dancer, Michèle, will be there most
of the time to
support me and adore me. We will plan to do a lot of dancing in Europe,
mainly in Paris,
at hangouts like La Coupole (for salsa), and also some ballroom too. I
learned when I
went to Paris last time (July 2000) for go to some of the salsa clubs is
that France goes on vacation in late July and August and some clubs are
locked up tight while others are still open.
If we decide to go ballroom dancing, I will investigate if they are
still dancing in
International style for the standard and Latin dances. They may.
While in Europe, I want to say high to my dancing friends, Jennifer
Bryan and Judy
Wright. And since Europe is far away, I will miss most of the Dancing
Illini people:
Tanya, Lisa (Hoppe and Ankenbrand), Bruce, Hillary, Regina, Jeremy, and
others until I come back home. When we come back, we plan to dance in
the first fall salsa night at
the Regent ballroom around late August. Au revoir....
