Once found only in large-rack room-based computing systems, GPU processors are now ominipresent in computers, with currently over a million sold per week. The Theoretical and Computational Biophysics Group (TCBG) conducted a 2.25-day workshop to teach researchers in computional and/or biophysical fields how to extend their programming skills and exploit GPU computing for their research goals. Advanced lectures from TCBG developers and guet programmers was followed by extended discussions meant to help workshop participants work on their molecular modeling codes. The workshop was held at TCBG's home, the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology in Urbana, Illinois. A total of 11 participants heard lectures, engaged in discussions, and made presentations about their own computing challenges.The workshop enjoyed support from Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility, which supplied computer accounts and training in their use, and NVIDIA, who supplied a prize for the best participant presentation.
