Some other possibilities for the external interface have come to mind.
- VMD does not yet use Tk for building the forms interface, and
there is no script level way to build a new form. Instead, a new form can
be built in a remote dpwish shell and the commands sent to VMD. The
version of VMD which supports Tk will be available in the summer of '97.
- VMD can be incorporated into data flow applications like Khoros
and AVS by building an interface module which translates the data flow
messages into VMD functions and vice versa
- VMD can be used as a remote teaching tool as it allows the
teacher to view and modify the whole display environment
- Multiple VMD displays can be synchronized by having
the vmdlog command
generate a remote procedure call. Assuming
the remote connection already exists, this is done with the following
command:
proc vmdlog {text} {
external send $text
}
Remember that only the core VMD commands (see Table 11.1)
can be logged, so only those are sent to the remote process.
