Performance difference of prcompiled binary VS source code

Dear NAMD users,
I'm using namd 2.9 linux x86-64 multicore. I'm wondering if that any
performance difference between precompiled binary vs source code.

My processor is the latest intel 4790K supporting avx2 instruction.
The precompiled binary was created on 2012, which avx2 is not yet supported.

If i compiled namd CVS, will it perform better than precompiled CVS binary?
