The Theoretical and Computational Biophysics Group (www.ks.uiuc.edu) of
the Beckman
Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of
Illinois at Urbana-
Champaign seeks applicants to fill two (2) Research Programmer
positions. The purpose of
these positions is to bolster the development of the biomolecular
modeling, simulation,
visualization and analysis programs NAMD and VMD. Applicants must be
able to significantly
benefit the NAMD/VMD user community of over 30,000 scientists by
enhancing the capabilities
of the programs. Successful applicants will be integrated into a highly
visible and productive
inter-disciplinary group of over 50 physicists, chemists, and computer
scientists in a state of the
art research facility on the edge of campus near public transportation
and covered parking in the
thriving micro-urban community of Champaign-Urbana.
Specific duties will vary with the qualifications of the applicant and
the development needs of
the group, but will typically include:
• Collaborate with users to identify and design needed features
• Implement simulation, analysis, and visualization methods
• Improve performance through tuning and GPU-acceleration
• Document, testing, and debugging software for release
• Respond to questions and bug reports from users via email
• Assist with workshops and other training activities
• Contribute to publications and proposals
Minimum qualifications are a bachelor degree in a physical or
mathematical discipline, computer
science or relevant experience and the ability to program in C and C++.
Preference will be given to candidates with relevant training and/or
experience in biomolecular
simulation or other scientific computing, software development and
distribution, highperformance
parallel or distributed computing, and knowledge of CUDA, OpenCL, Tcl,
Python,
MPI and/or Charm++. Candidates should demonstrate good written and
verbal communication
skills and the ability to work both independently and in close
collaboration with researchers of
various backgrounds.
The Research Programmer is a full-time, benefits-eligible Academic
Professional position.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. In order to
