How to use lset inside tclforces/calc_forces

I am having trouble using the TcL command "lset" within
a tclForces "calc_forces" function. A line of the form

lset z 0 1

which is meant to set the 0th element of list z to the value 1 instead
fails with a message like "FATAL ERROR: Setting parameter lset from
script failed". Apparently NAMD treats "lset" as some reserved keyword.
Is there a way to get around this?
