force constant for zer-velocity SMD

Hallo,

I am trying to keep the center of mass of part of my protein constrained in
the z-direction. So I am using zero-velocity SMD:

SMD on
SMDK 10.0
SMDFile protein.pdb
SMDVel 0.0
SMDDir 0 0 1
SMDOutputFreq 500

- Does the above make sense ?
- Does the force constant value of 10.0 sound appropriate ? How does one
decide ?
- In what units does NAMD report the force ? pN ?
