Washington D.C. - People, Pets, and Touristy Things

The main purpose of the whole Washington visit was to visit our friends in the area - Caitte and Randall most concretely, but there were others out there too, like R. and Paul, Jon, my Uncle Tim, and the previously-online-only Maryam and Kaiser. These are a few of the pictures of us wandering around and visiting with our batch of DC friends.

Images
Nickademus' New Spot
Nik immediately found our luggage to be a wonderful platform.
Jealus Nostradamus
Damus just wanted the space that Nik had already found.
Damus Leaves
Guess what? He doesn't want to be there! And Randall's neck was not going to stand in his way...
Caitte Looks for Nik
Wherever may he be?
Nik-In-A-Bag
If you look closely, you can see a happy little beast.
Nik-in-a-Shirt
He's a remarkably tolerant cat, that's all I'll say.
The Angry Inch
An interesting bar name in Adams Morgan. Beth and I were wandering around there after our zoo trip, in preparation of meeting a bunch of friends.
So's Your Mom
Another amusing bar name, though not as amusing.
Jon
Jon moved out to DC about six months before this point; and I'm still happy we got to see him during this trip. (I was especially excited about trying out Ethiopian food, at his suggestion...)
Paul
One of Beckman's old sysadmins; I was kindof shocked to get to see him.
R.
My old co-worker.
Vodka Bar
After Ethiopian food, we all found a nifty vodka bar to hang out in...
Russia House Entrance
The more astute of you may note that I don't generally drink.
Russia House Sign
Well, I actually *did* drink at this place, and I quite enjoyed it.
Russia House Menu
That's why we made sure to take lots of pictures of the location for posterity.
Vodka List, I
We tried five different straight vodkas that night - Altay, Business Class, Fabrege Arts, Jewel of Russia Classic, and Birch Buds.
Vodka List, II
We also tried seven different mixed Vodkas - Honey Jalepeno, Mix Berry, Canteloupe, Horseradish, Blood Orange, Jalapeno, and Rowanberry
Bonding over Fudge
They couldn't talk me into joining them for the chocolate, though. Sad.
Tim and Beth
It's nice to occasionally get some pictures of the two of us...
Uncle Tim and Aunt Judith
We visited my Uncle Tim and Aunt Judith after visiting the Holocaust Museum. It was fun, even if we weren't in a very happy mood.
Beth and Tim, II
It would probably have been better to find a quieter place to talk, too... but it was really good to see them after so long, and to introduce Beth to my namesake.
More Cat In Shirt
It's a running theme in Caitte's household, I guess.
More Cat In Shirt, II
Or at least it had better be a running theme, they *do* have claws...
Hungry Damus
He'd only just eaten, mind, but he's just so *hungry*!
Enjoying the Sleeping Situation
Both Nik and Damus really enjoyed having somebody to sleep on during the night. Beth and I weren't going to complain, either.
Checker's
Beth was ecstatic to find her childhood favorite fast food out in DC; it had closed down in the Chicago area years ago.
Sleeping Caitte
I guess that Rent bored her.
Damus' Seat
I love the "this is mine" attitude of cats.
Maryam and Kaiser
I had never met either of these two before this night.
Maryam and Kaiser, II
They used to go to UIUC; and I knew them onlin. But we had never actually run into each other.
Thoughtful Paul
Contempating the Indian food, I guess:
Jon
I'm glad he's doing so well in DC.
Sarah
Jon's new girlfriend; we were sent with instructions to take pictures of her.
Washington Monument
Thus begins the tourist shots.
Washington Monument, Wide
I'm not sure which one I liked better; but I certainly took a lot more than this.
Smithsonian Tower
A close up of the tower on the Castle.
Caitte and Smithsonian Castle
Look how tall Caitte is!
Smithson Tomb
Okay, I don't think his body is in there.
Map of the Mall
I rather liked this setup. I wish I had one like this.
Sculpture Garden
We didn't have time to hang out there, but I got a shot here and there.
:30 Seconds Left
We were standing in the middle of an intersection, and I was amused that in one direction there were 30 seconds to cross...
:12 Seconds Left
...and in the other there were 12 seconds. Okay, so I'm easily amused.
Treasury Department White House
This is as close as we were likely to get.
Meeting for Dinner
Tapas, really.
???
I wish I remembered his name. Somebody will remind me. He was a co-worker of Randall's.
Claire
I hadn't seen Claire since , years ago... hooray!
Claire, II
I think it's better without the flash.
Cat in Sweater
Poor Kitty!
Cat in Sweater, II
He really doesn't look amused.
Unhappy Kitty
Neither of them looked amused, actually.
Unhappy Kitty, II
Beth really liked the whole situation, though.
Both Unhappy Cats
Here they are, with their parents... how humiliating!
Tim and the Unhappy Cat
I was too wiped out from the day to try to save the poor beasts.
NMAI
National Museum of the American Indian; it was an interesting place
NMAI Duck
That's a real Native American Duck.
No Child Left Behind
That's where the money for the program went. Too bad the rest of the country didn't get anything.
SpaceShipOne
I doubt I would have bothered to come to the Air and Space Museum if this hadn't been in it. Hooray, history!
Breitling Orbiter 3 Gondola
From the first flight around the world by balloon.
Bell XP-59A Airacomet
I really wish I hadn't run out of memory capicity around here, I would have gotten a lot more shots.
Space Jumper for Caitte
In the gift shop, we got to see what kinds of clothes they had that fit my little sister.
Panda Tim and Beth
Aren't we adorable?
Falling Clown
Clowns are meant to fall.
The Capitol
From the Mall. It's a nifty looking building.
The Capitol - Closed for Maintenance
I wish.
Claire and Caitte
We got together with Claite one last time before we left.
Drunk-ish Caitte
Caitte enjoyed the bar we hung out in a little much...
Tim and Beth, III
We're going back there at some point.
