Hi everyone,

Just wanted to pass this information to you. Sounds like a good set of
workshops...

Swing on,

Lisa

Hey Lisa,
Since I know you are into dancing, check out the message below. It's
going
to be a pretty cool weekend. We are trying to book the Rhythm Rockets
from
Chicago on Friday and we'll probably organize something with a local
band
for Saturday. Feel free to let the other dancers in CU know about
this. It
will fill up fast though. This will be the first intermediate Lindy
workshop we have ever had in St. Louis. I'll let you know when
registration
begins.

>>>Hi all,
>>>
>>>As some of you know, we have planned a workshop on Jan 22,23 at the
>>>Midtown with two instructors from Cleveland, Joel Plys and Valerie
>>>Solstrom. They were finalist in the American Lindy Hop
Championships and
>>>teach full-time.
>>>
>>>The main focus of the workshop will, of course, be Savoy-Style Lindy
Hop,
>>>but we thought we'd add a little variety and have them also teach
some
>>>Collegiate Shag (other possibilities might be Partner 20's
Charleston,
>>>Balboa, or enlarging the Blues section). We've put together a
tentative
>>>schedule for the two-day workshop (we may start later on Sunday):
>>>
>>>Saturday
>>>
>>>10:00 - 11:15 Advanced Basics (Fine-tuning)
>>>11:30 - 12:45 Collegiate Shag I
>>>2:00 - 3:15 Lindy II (a variety of new moves)
>>>3:30 - 4:45 Shim Sham (a swing line dance born from tap)
>>>
>>>Sunday
>>>
>>>10:00 - 11:15 Slow Lindy / Blues (Breaks, dips, musicality)
>>>11:30 - 12:45 Collegiate Shag II
>>>2:00 - 3:15 Lindy III - Lindy Charleston moves
>>> - e.g. they mentioned "Airplane" and a fancy 10ct entry
>>>3:30 - 4:45 Lindy IV - Advanced (more moves)
>>>
>>>Reasonable proficiency in swingout (from open/closed), circle,
>>>side-by-side charleston, and tandem/back/inline charleston is
assumed.
>>>
>>>I'm assuming we'll charge about $60 for both days.
>>>
>>>They will arrive on early Friday evening and leave Monday morning
and
>>>will be available for private lessons at the following rates:
>>>
>>>$40/person/hr
>>>$60/couple/hr
>>>$85/2 couples/hr
>>>
>>>They stressed that they will teach any level of Lindy Hop and are
>>>knowledgeable in performance aerials.
>>>
>>>ANYWAY, what I need from you all is feedback on this plan.
>>>
>>>Do we want Collegiate Shag instruction or should we devote time to
>>>something else ? What would best serve to raise the level of
dancing in
>>>St. Louis ?
>>>
>>>Also, do you plan on attending ? If so, will you attend Sat,Sun, or
both
>>>days ? RSVP regardless, so I have an idea who won't be there.
>>>
>>>Lastly, can we coordinate a dance that Saturday ? Is something
already
>>>planned by one of the venues ?
>>>
>>>Thanks,
>>>Paul
