We will hold our eleventh general practice of the semester tonight
(Wednesday, November 18) from 9:30 - 10:50 pm at the Regent.
Directions to the Regent are included at the end of this message, or
you can email our carpool coordinator Riki Garvin <egarvin@uiuc.edu>.
Arrive early; there may be a quickie dance lesson at 9:35.
Next week's general practice is cancelled due to Thanksgiving. The next
general practice will be December 2 and will include a general meeting.
An officer's meeting will be held at 5:30 on Monday November 30 at Ming's
Wok by Schnuck's in Urbana; members with issues to raise are welcome.
Everyone is welcome, especially ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS. There is
no better place than Wednesday night practice to review what
you learned in class, ask questions, or just get to know your
fellow dancers better. More experienced dancers are usually
happy to dance with beginners (we get to feel like we're really
smart and talented that way) and all of the dances from our
classes will be played. If you don't know one of the dances,
do something else that seems to fit. It's only practice!
(You might want to clear it with your partner, though, and
stay out of the way of people who are circulating.)
The Dancing Illini has a large library of instructional dance videos.
Watching these tapes is like getting private lessons from the best dance
instructors in the US. If you want to learn it, we've got the video!
The video librarian will be available at all regularly scheduled
practices. Videos can be checked out from 10:00 to 10:15 during every
practice, and are due back from 10:00 to 10:15 during the following
week's practice. You will be asked for a $2 donation (to help the club
purchase future videos) and for a $20 cash deposit (which will be returned
to you when you return the video).

*** Directions to the Regent Ballroom ***
By car...
The Regent Ballroom is located at 1406 Regency Drive West in Savoy. From
Champaign, take Neil Street, which becomes US 45, south to Burwash
Avenue. (The northwest corner of US 45 and Burwash has a car dealership,
Twin City Honda; the southwest corner has a gas station.) Turn right
(west) onto Burwash, go several blocks, turn left (south) onto Regency
Drive West. The Regent is less than a block south, on the east side of
Regency Drive West.
By bus...
MTD 100 Yellow runs at night and stops on Burwash Ave near the Regent.

By bike...
There is a new bike path along Prospect Ave., a block west of the Regent.
It extends north to Windsor Rd, which in turn has an east-west bike path.
However, unless I've missed something, you have to use the Neil St.
sidewalk, First St., or a similar to bike between Windsor Rd. and points
northeast. But from Windsor I generally just come down Lyndhurst, the
first street west of Neil. It's a pleasant ride through suburbia.
